LUCIANO SABER was born in Lenauheim, Romania, the birth and hometown of the great German poet Lenau. He was influenced by the German, Latin and Slavic cultures due to the geographic location and social climate of Romania at the time. He moved to Brooklyn, New York with his family in the mid seventies, but not before spending several months in a refugee camp in Trischirhen, Austria to await the U.S. entry visa.

Brooklyn, New York was quite a change from the small village he knew as home. There he had to face the first great challenges of his life. Saber had to master the English language as well as defeat the daily cruel verbal and sometimes physical attacks of his newfound classmates. In high school he was a dedicated student and one of the most favorite writers for the school magazine, Kaleidoscope, with 15 poems published.

Saber began his professional career in the arts as a teenager while attending the Lake View Cultural Center for acting in Chicago. His passion for the arts, especially acting and writing grew stronger as he spent many hours writing poems and watching movies. During his teen years, Saber made his acting debut in the community theater of Chicago where he appeared in plays such as Shakespeare's "A Mid Summer Night Dream." After several other theatrical roles, Saber was cast in the Bailiwick Theater production of "Sing For Me Naxia" where he portrayed a suppressed Albanian film director in former Yugoslavia. The play received critical acclaim as it won the Chicago Theater Directors Award. After portraying the characters developed by other writers, Saber was inspired to develop his own. He wrote a story about the hardships of an immigrant and later received an award for "Outstanding Achievement In The Field Of Writing" from the Illinois House of Representatives. The award inspired him to explore the characters of people dealing with hardships and to write screenplays and poems from a darker side of life.

Saber surprised his family and friends when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He left a promising career in the arts and embarked on a road of mystery, suspense, intrigue, betrayal, honor and most of all, mortal danger. He trained to be a police specialist and later was recruited by a covert agency where he worked as a special undercover operative. During that time, Saber looked death in the face on many occasions, making him understand his own mortality.

After a decorated military career, Saber returned to Chicago where he attended Columbia College’s film program. However, the life he knew as an undercover operative was calling him back. He was torn between two worlds and so; he attended the Illinois State Police academy and then served as a police officer while continuing the film program at Columbia. Two years later, Saber developed his own "Romanian Television Variety" show, which was the first Romanian television broadcast program in the free world. As a result of that program, Saber was hired by PolStudios to develop, produce and direct several shows. Ultimately, WCFC TV-38 hired Saber as an investigative reporter for the nationally syndicated program "Page2". But Saber didn’t stop there, he landed a VJ position with "Solid Rock Videos" and became the Spot Producer for the Chicago based television station.

After a couple of years of working for WCFC-TV, Saber started his own film production company, LS Films, Inc. He raised the financing to shoot a 5 minute trailer based on a screenplay he wrote entitled "Foreign Affairs." With all the production and management experience behind him, at the end of 1997, he succeeded in raising the budget to produce his screenplay "Placebo Effect". On the set of "Placebo", Saber served as the writer, producer and actor. After a short festival run, "Placebo" received the Best Feature, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography awards at the New York International Independent Film Festival. The Romanian Cultural Foundation in Bucharest honored Saber with the Best Performance award in his portrayal of three different characters in "Placebo Effect". The movie opened theatrically in January 2000 and it continues its tour in the international circles.

Having come to a "not so average life", Saber was able to share with his audience stories from a road less traveled. Most importantly, Saber, through his acting and writing, reveals his experiences and memories of different worlds. The "characters" in his past became immortal as he gave them a new identity and a new beginning with every stroke of the keyboard. However, the inner soul of the good and the bad, always, will remain unchanged.
